Power Supply Suddenly Dead??

I restarted my comp last night after installing some software. Occasionally when I restart, my Samsung 193p monitor seems to not pick up any signal from the computer - it flashes a box in the middle of the screen that goes from "Analog" to "Digital" several times and then finally says "Going to sleep". What I have to do then is hold the power button down on my case (Antec Super Lanboy) to make the computer go off, because even if I turn the monitor off and back on, it does not get the signal.

I don't know if this has to do with a bad connection with my video card (Leadtek 6600GT) or what, but I usually just give my monitor cable connections a quick tightening, then power the computer on again, and everything is fine.

This happened last night, but when I held the power button to shut off the computer, it seemed like some things went off (possibly the CPU fan), but some didn't (i.e. I could still see my front and rear 120mm fans running). But something was strange, because those fans didn't go off. So I had to flip the switch on my power supply.

Now the computer will not turn back on at all. Could the power supply be dead? I've never seen any problems up until now.

Or Is it possible that there could be a problem with my case's power button somehow not sending the signal to start up??

My power supply has an "electrical outlet" on the back where you can plug something in. I tried plugging my printer into it, but the printer would not power up. Does this verify that the power supply is dead, or would it have to be running first (i.e. after pressing power on my case) to give any power out? EDIT: This is expected behavior as per the Vantec FAQ, see my post below.

Thanks!!

What power supply are we talking about? Also, I have seen and experienced many problems with samsung displays not detecting a video signal when there is one.

It is a Vantec Stealth Aluminum 520W power supply, ordered 1/17/2005 from ZipZoomFly. I just checked the manual and it says 3 year warranty, so I will look into that. But I wanted to verify it was the power supply before I did anything (however I need this system back up and running ASAP). Thank you for your response, and also that is intersting about the Samsung monitor problem. It is an occasional annoyance for me, but not a critical problem.

Regarding my printer not turning on while plugged into the power supply (but computer off), it looks like that is normal behavior. This is from the FAQ on www.vantecusa.com:

Q: The AC outlet on the back of the power supply doesn?t work unless my computer is turned on! What?s going on?
A: The AC outlet on the ION/Stealth is designed to turn on and off along with the power supply. It is ideal for connecting the monitor, printer, or any device that is used only when the computer is on. This way, you don?t? have to remember to turn off the printer/monitor every time you turn off your computer. However, it is not to be used as a regular AC outlet for devices that may be used while the computer is off.
