since anandtech is an all out hardware forum, why dont we have a seperate section where we can post questions or comments about PSUs.. just a suggestion
it would also help clear some of the clutter all over the place about psu's in the GH and cases and cooling forum

Agreed. PSU would be very low on the list of new forums, way behind Programming, ... , Sound, ... , Harddrives, etc.

I offer with a :D a short flash tutorial on forum posting.

Actually, though I am opposed to the sound forum and neutral towards the the programming forum, I think the PSU forum is an ok idea. The real difference is that sound falls under the periphials forum and programming falls under software. PSU's don't really fall under anything other than GH.

I would like a USB cable forum. Just a suggestion. I'm sure it would improve the overall quality of these forums.

Aren't PSU's usually sold with cases? I dunno, I usually group cases in with PSU's because they're so often sold together.

actually YES...but..tgere are very few good and descent PSU`s being sold with cases.

Your top of the line cases do not include a PSU becuase its well known that somebody spending that kind of cash is going to need a PSY that handle whatever is thrown at it.

If you really want in depth discussion or reviews of PSU's, just head to silentpcreview.com and you will find a forum area dedicated to them. Anandtech is more of a general hardware site/forum.

personally SPCR`s ratings are skewered becuase they expouse silence thus a perfectly good PSU will get a lousy rating verses a bad PSU that is quiet...so go figure that one out....

also SPCR isn`t GOD!!

Actually they don't SPCR says a PSU is a good PSU if it is but they do say whether or not it would be good for a quiet system, although they do focus on silence they do some of the most comprehensive PSU reviews around.

I am sorry to inform you that SPCR`s rating of anything are skewered becuase of the noise issue.

Case in point.....SPCR raked the Zalman 9500 over the coals and gave it a less than flattering review.
Yet almost all other sites that evealuated the 9500 mentioned nothing about a so called noise issue and rated the 9500 a top notch heatsink....

So I stand by what i said about SPCR`s review process being skewered......
But then again SPCR does stand for Silent....lol

Jedi I was only referring to their PSU reviews, other items are evaluated on noise above all else but their PSU ratings (the topic of the post I quoted) review the whole item, although noise is taken into consideration they evaluate everything and do top notch reviews

so fiery thats just not true.
Even when evaluating PSU`s SPCR gives much higher makrs to quiet PSU`s than to others that are better yet are supposedly noisier...sorry to inform you of that!!

SPCR doesn't give ratings, they write a couple paragraph conclusion which mentions whether the PSU is good and whether or not its quiet. I really don't want to have to keep hijacking this thread so if you want to keep discussing this PM me.

You mean you hate SPCR because they don't think the PC P&C PSUs are quiet enough.

No I didn`t say that...In fact in onother thread I used the zalman 9500 as an example and there are ****** loads of even more examples.

Also note alot of us who have the PC Power & Cooling PSU really do not consider it noisy.

But also note that since that article was written PC Power & Cooling has addressed the noise issue by adding something that controlls the fan accoding to the internal PSU temps....it simply throttles down the fan when full fan rpms are not needed due to low PSU temps.

But YES SPCR does a adequate job of reviewing products.....
I personally though see through the smoke when it comes to defining the word quiet.

We both know that word QUIET to be subjective at best.....

YES--SPCR is NOT GOD!! I have said that many times in reationship to other products.

SPCR is one of many sites we should use to formulate our opinions!!

Have a nice day Howard!!!

Howard.....do I detect a note of jealousy in your last post...lol
