Is 450W power supply sufficient for the following ?
Intel Dragontail Peak DP35DPM motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 Mhz
Samsung 2GB DDR2
WD 320GB/7200/16MB SATA II
Nvidia 8400GS 256MB
LG x18 SATA DVD
Vista Home Premium 32
( Samsung 226BW Monitor )
Does the addition of extra fans affect this at all , or is this negligible ?

MarcVenice , thanks for the reply . I already have the unit - not sure what PSU , but it comes with the case - a HEC Midi ATX CI 6A19 . Was told this would be quite OK , but wanted to hear from the experts . This PC not for gaming .

Can't really find much about that PSU. I think it's safe to say it's not a qaulity unit, but your rig isn't very demanding either. I've ran my own 'low-end' rig on a 400w no name PSU for roughly a year, no trouble whatsoever. But these low qaulity units can act up funny at times. You sure you don't want to invest in something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817371005 if you look around it might come even cheaper. It's also more efficient for sure, so it will save some bucks on the electricity bill over a year time.

Thanks MarcVenice . That Antec looks pretty good , and I see is 380W . Can I take it from what you're saying , that if my 450W is of reasonable quality , then powerwise , 450W is sufficient - just sufficient - amply sufficient ?

Amply sufficient. One way to somewhat check is how big of a 12v rail it has. it should have a 'sticker' on the PSU so you can check it out.

should be good to go unless you're oveclocking you don't need more than about 350Watts on a qaulity power supply so even given the off-branding should be no problems.

There is a Power supply forum for future reference though.

It sais 17a and 15a on the 12v rails, you won't be even coming close to that though, so it should be fine. I mean, if your rig pull 200w I'd be surprised. Advice for the future though, buy cases and psu's SEPERATELY. I mean, when buying a dell, HP and such the PSU's are plenty good enough, but when you buy an OEM case, that comes with a PSU, the PSU's SUCK 90% of the time. They can't put out the wattage they say they can, and well, they just suck. For example, check this unit that was reviewed at jonnyguru's: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modul...iews&op=Story4&reid=65

It couldn't even do 350w and BLEW UP ! Here's an even better example of bargain PSU's, to good to be true: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modul...views&op=Story&reid=71 Not trying to scare you, but this is reality. When you ask me, it's pure stupidity building a PC worth 500$ or more, and throwing in a DIRTCHEAP psu, just to see it all go up in flames.

Hey Aviwil,

The power supply question should be posted in the "Power Supply" section which DA linked for you below. But I agree with the above poster that a true 380W PSU like the Earthwatts or its sibling the SU-380 should be more than adequate for your proposed system. Please note that I have several EA/SU-380s for sale in my FS/T listing linked in my sig, below.

Where do you live and/or where will you be located when you buy this case? Don't want to point you to a site that won't be useful to you. If you fill out the second Tab of your User Profile, the more thoughtful responders here won't have to ask you your location again. The HEC/Compucase 6A19 units aren't that available in the States except under the Rosewill R6A brand (those are OEM by Compucase). Even Directron doesn't seem to have them any more. Of course, other Compucase models are built on that same basic and excellent design which was also the basis for the Antec SLK3000-B.

Zepper , thanks for your detailed and helpful reply - as I mentioned above , I already have the unit , and jut wanted to hear what people had to say about it - I take it from you that HEC is considered quite OK ?
DerwenArtos12 thanks - I see that the Power Supply forum is right here at AnandTech - my oversight .

Yes, HEC PSUs are well regarded at least the ones reviewed some time ago at the Tom's Hardware site. IDK how the new low-end, Orion branded ones are.
