I am thinking about trying out an AMD 1600+ XP. I have always used intel but would like to try a change. I currently have a Fong-Kai 603 Case with a 300 watt ps. Is that going to be enough?

The set up I am looking at would be

Athlon XP 1600+
Shuttle AK31
40gig Maxtor
2 Ricoh CDRW's
Geforce2 GTS 32MB but will eventually get a Ti200

The quality of the PS is important too as opposed to just looking at the watt rating, but with a 1600+ Athlon and not too many extras I think you will be safe with a 300 Watt PSU. Also you can check out AMD's recommended PS list here to see what they have to say about it.

Should be fine the xp's are a little less power hungry...

My general rule of thumb and experience in building systems...

athlon tbirds

650-850 250watts
900-1133 300 watts
1200-1400 350 watts

athlon xps

1500+-1700+ 300watts
1800+-1900+ 350 watts

Ofcourse these are with normal system configurations of 4 ide channels, FDD, 3-4 pci cards, and 2 case fans. Over this bump up to the next level...
