Hi,
My ANTEC 480W PS just died on me. I am on a backup cooler master 380W PS that came with the case now, and it make a lot of fan noise.

I would like to buy a PS that is *really silent* and that can drive my system below. Any recommendations for a <$100 PS?

My system is:
Asus a8n sli delux,
3sata HDDs,
1 DVD drive,
1 Nvidia 6600GT
1 hauppage pvr150

Thanks

I'm thinking that the 330w seasonic s12 would prolly be the best bet for you, unless there is a passive psu that it like 300w. Seasonics are generally the most quiet, but certainly not very cost effective. I'm willing to bet that to the untrained ear, the difference between, say a seasonic and an enhance 5140gh is not noticable. Both the seasonic and the enhance are ~$65 shipped. Masscool makes a "silent psu" and was very well reviewed by JG, but it only comes in 500w and 620w flavors, if you upgrade the video card and oc your cpu, the 500w might be worth a look.
...anyway, seasonic s12 330w, take a look. Most people here will recommend it, but take a look at some quality options <400w, you may find something that is stable and quiet.

ace, then again we could just recommend a 1KW Enermax Galaxy, I bet it would hardly have to lift a finger (or move its fans) to run his system. Now that would be quiet :D

Hmmm... oh the possiblities:
?remove the fan from the psu and peltier cool the whole system.
?remove the fan and encase the psu in acrylic. put oil in the encasement
... the former is ridicuously expensive. the former is ghetto and costs almost nothing.:D

Why the OP shouldn't get that QuickSilver.

1) Can get by with a lot less power.
2) It's a rebadged Seasonic, yet costs more then a Seasonic.
3) Overpriced.

Oh I know, it was mean't as a subtle humor joke.

Personally, i'd go with anything with good amperage. Example brands bieing, Enermax, Antec, Seasonic, Silverstone, and FSP

Thanks guys, Looks like Enermax 400W and 380W Seasonic S12 are popular. I am leaning towards the enermax.

If you are really sensitive to noise, then I think you will be much happier with the S12. If you're trying to get something quiet yet not breaking the bank, then get the Enermax.

perhaps you like modular? The liberty is good. It is as stable as any quality non-modular psu. I think it looks snazzy too.;)

EDIT: Funny joke quicksilver? Keep trying.:D

Hmm. Yes, I have this rig in my bedroom and I realy hate the noise now. In fact I even hate the read/write noise from my 120G WD disk :(

Will the 380W Seasonic handle an upgrade like an extra DVD drive or a 7800GT?

Thanks.

Was casemod having a seasonic sale last week? I could have sworn that the 380w s12 was $60 + shipping... oh well. I think the 380w can handle a 7800gt, they weren't (and still aren't) exactly power hogs, but I guess if you're ocing and 3 hdd's, go for it.

Casemod is always chaning their prices. When posting casemod links on forums, you can't post the full link. You need to post a tinyURL so some of the link doesn't get cut out (and it takes away the special price).
