I'm running for northwood p4 2.4 ghz
1 gig of corsair
2 hd's 160 gig and 120 gig
and 2 cd rom drives
and a nvidia gforce 4 ti4200

what do u guys recommend for a power supply? and at what is the minimum wattage i should go for? i want to get something that is well above my specs just so that if i get a new computer in a couple of years i don't really need to change the psu.

thanks!

What's your price range. I would recommend anything from Antec, Fortron, OCZ, or Seasonic.

i'm not really concerned about price..more concerned about quality..but i don't want to overspend if i don't need to...so anything from 80-120 should be okay

Don't even consider a Thermaltake PSU. They tend to droop their rails under load. That OCZ is a great PSU though

I don't think so. I don't see so either. I've had a few dozen of their PSUs and none of them drop.

I'd say you you should go with an Antec or a Seasonic PSU.

Yes, the Antec Truepower lines are great, or if you want to save some money, Superflower makes fine PSUs and they're selling at a very reasonable cost.

i'm really starting to lean towards the ocz 450....there's no such thing as too high of a wattage for a system is there?

Wow, look at these guys.

Whoever is reccomending a PSU that puts out more then 350watts is a moron.

I suggest somthing close to 350 watts.

Good brands include,

Forton
Sparkle
Seasonic
Enermax
Antec

Stay away from OCZ, they are pricey and usualy for high end systems.

You dont need 400 watts.

I could run that system with a 250 watt antec.

My old P4/GF4 system ran stable on a 200 watt psu.

Did you actually read his first post?

He wants it to be able to run a new system in a couple of years also. PSU's are one item that future proofing makes sense. Don't be so quick to criticize others dude.

Couple of years.....

LoL

He wants to use the same PSU 3 years later?

Good luck with that.

Future proofing a psu for that long is foolish.

He is better off getting something cheap for around 30 bucks that will run his system fine now until he wants to upgrade.

If I had the same additude 3 years ago, I would be stuck with a 20 pin psu and 24 pin motherboard.
