If you run a t-bird above 1.4 ghz... ie 1.5 or 1.6 or even 1.7, do you need at least a 400W power supply?

and if so, what's the best power supply and where can i get one? :) thanks

Not necessariliy - but it's highly recommend. AMD themselves recommend 400W for 1.4Ghz+, and I personally would too.

Agreed, not necessarily. Over the weekend I built a system using a 1.4 Ghz which I have running at 1.55 Ghz using only a 250 W power supply. But it is a quality power supply (from 3DCOOL.COM). In retrospect I wish I had a little more power, but it is working, and stable. I cannot seem to hit 1600 Mhz, and that may be because of the power supply, and maybe not. I won't know unless I try one with a little more power. If you can afford it, get a good 400 W power supply. It can't hurt. But it isn't absolutely necessary.

If you're not planning on doing any OCing...then no, a 300 W like the antec 303 or the ones that come with the enlight should be fine. But if you're planning on OCing to something like 1.6 and beyond, you prolly should look to buy a new 400 W psu.

1.4 to 1.5 - 300W, 1.6 - 350W, 1.7 - 400W.

Some general guide. May varies depends on other components u have in the box.
