Hello everyone, i'm currently building a mid to high end gaming system and i'm new to all of this and with the money i've saved up and the money i'll be getting from tax return i currently bought pretty much all the necessary parts for my build except the power supply. Currently i have:

Case - Coolermaster Haf X 942
Processor - Intel I7-970
Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth X58
Memory - 6gb Corsair Dominator DDR3
Hard Drive - OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 120gb
Video Card - EVGA Superclocked GTX580
Drive - LG Blu-ray Burner

now my question is im trying to find a good power supply to run everything above and i might be adding a possibly a western digital black 1tb for storage and a extra 120mm fan at the top of the case. I'm not looking into overclocking anything (well not at this point till i learn more) but currently i'm looking at both the Corsair AX750 and the Corsair AX850. I've tried 3 different psu calculators and i get 3 different results and i really want to use the AX750 oppossed to the AX850 because the 850 going by different reviews doesn't live up to the gold standards. Any help would be appreciated i'm just worried about the video card and if anyone can tell me if i would have sufficent cooling that would be a plus as well. thank you

Even the 750 is probably overkill, but IMO, instead of the Corsair, take a look at the XFX 750. Rated quite a bit higher by the PSU gods at JonnyGuru.com. (9.7 over 9.0)

Corsair sells a very nice PSU. I have an HX620 unit...but IMO, the XFX units are just a bit nicer...and in the 750 watt sizes...the XFX is about $60 cheaper in price right now at NewEgg.

I'd look at corsair, enermax or seasonic units and then decide which one was best for your needs.

thank you so much for the responses i'm just worried if 750w would be enough to run everything and if 750w is overkill would 600w work? i'm sorry im trying to do as much research and i'm trying to understand wattage a little better. thank you again

Honestly, I think the 750 is more than you "need". Under 100% load your system would most likely work with just a 600 watt psu, but depending on temps and other things it might not be able to handle it.

Stick with a 750 and call it a day.

600 watts SHOULD be plenty...if you buy a GOOD one.

Browse through the reviews here:

Try to avoid buying one that has a rating of less than 9...although many that are rated in the 8-9 range are probably OK.

Corsair, XFX, and Seasonic are the three brands I look at...the rest are usually lacking. (although the Earthwatts brand isn't too bad either.)

Using this PSU calculator:

600 watts is about the minimum I'd go with for your system. If it was mine, I'd still go with 750 to give some room for expansion.
