Power supply question

Hello,

I have an Antec PSU rated at 450W.

Is it always pulling 450W? Or does it peak at 450 under full load?

I just have concerns with power consumption and leaving the computer on for extended periods of time.

my system (no OC, all stock):
Core 2 Duo E6400
2 x 1024GB OCZ plat
eVGA 7900GT KO (factory OC'd)
74GB Raptor SATA
120GB WD Caviar SATA
(1) 120mm fan
(1) 80mm fan
and a ZALMAN CNPS9500 (fan is on lowest setting on the rheostat)

thanks

Usually it means sustained max load. Can peak above that. Not every mfgr lists the same way.

Fire, baaaad!!!!

Meat, goooood!!!!

A PSU doesn't draw what it's rated at. A PSU only supplies the power being demanded of it.

When the same build is powered by two different power supplies, the only variable involved is the power supplies efficiency. Some PSU's may draw more AC power than another to produce the same amount of DC power.

so, that is to say, under pretty mellow conditions, it's pulling <450W?

Under "mellow" conditions, it's likely pulling < 150W. 😉
