Power Supply question

Hi, I was wondering if my 550watt ultra x2-connect (http://www.directron.com/ult31851.html) will be enough to handle my comp with STABILITY for the following specs:

CPU: Intel E6400
Mobo: Asus P5W DH Deluxe
GPU: MSI RX1900XT-VT2D512E Radeon X1900XT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16
Case: NZXT Lexa (4 fans)
Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

Get some other brand since x-connect is terrible. Browse through his forum for the past week. There are many psu threads discussing the same thing.

The X2 units are not BAD and will not kill your system. They are a real improvement over
the original X-connect. OP, if the price is right and you want/need the bling. Meh, why not
go for it.
Read reviews and MUCH more at http://www.jonnyguru.com/ near the top are links
to Hexus reviews, read some if you have time.
The poster above me creats alot of smoke with little real imput. I tend to shine him on.

If you want a modular psu Enermax has some better units. The Enermax Liberty 620w is better than that X-Connect as far as quality and performance goes. There's also a 500w model but the 620w model is more popular than the 500w model.

You didn't notice it was an X2-Connect, I take it? They're not my taste, but they're not nearly as bad as some of the things Ultra has put on the market.

He didn't ask about an X-Connect. He asked about an X2 550W.

If you have some actual insight you'd like to contribute, please feel free to do so. If you want to regurgitate FUD, you should expect to get callled out.

OP,

The X2 550W PSU will be fine with the one X1900, "even if you overclock" :roll: I had one for a time running a pair of 7800GTX's, but the noise from the PSU fan under load drove me nuts. I now use an external semi-fanless 500W unit.

But if you ever decide to go with a pair of X1900's, the PSU won't handle it. Not enough juice on the 12V rails.

As you can see from this review the X2's rails dropped below spec when used with a pair of X1900's. And I'm sure the PSU fan was spinning like a tornado too.

There's not a lot of "inexpensive" power supplies out there that can handle X1900 Crossfire. As far as modulars go, the Corsair HX620W should. The Enermax Liberty 620W, as someone has already mentioned, should. If you don't need modular, I suggest the Silverstone ST75ZF if you go Crossfire.

Its increasing clear that you becom a shivering wreck and jump to the defense of anything to do with your beloved x-connect because you used to work for that company in the past. Even after many people complained about x-connect issues, you refused to believe it was anything out of the ordinary until qc problems became common knowledge.

I, unlike most think that it will handle the rig that you listed. For how long?? I honestly don't know.

I would (if you can without losing warrantee) open the case and examine the components and get back to us. Use of crap caps is and indicator that you should sell the unit and find a better one.

A quick search of the Internet will tell you if the caps are crap or not.
