Power Supply question...

for my system below. I am getting some 'low power' warnings at startup for the GPU (details here):

The PSU 12V=29A, but its split between two rails, so the mobo is only getting 14 or 15A (I guess). Since the GPU feeds only from the mobo, I guess thats the problem.
So is there a way (adapter or otherwise) to combine the 2 rails?

Do you have the square 4 pin ATX 12V power connector on the mobo hooked up?

If not, that connector is a way to provide more power to the board.

LTC8K6 - yes, I have that hooked up. As well as the EZ conector for the GPU. Is it possible that too many items are sharing a single rail or something? I have the EZ plug on its own molex line.

The EZ plug is there in case you don't have an ATX 12V connector. It allowed you to use a regular drive connector instead.

You don't need both the EZ Plug and the ATX 12V connector plugged in.

N/M, it seems ASUS has has changed the function of the EZplug since SLI boards came out. It used to be a substitute for the ATX 12V connector on older boards.

Well, it's only supposed to be used in SLI mode, so maybe you can try unplugging it and see what happens?

I tried without the molex. The Volt readings in ASUS Probe dropped a bit lower. I'm really stuck here.

In dual rail systems such as my OCZ it shows 2 but from what I read the total is still the 2 combined....


Maybe it is a power issue and just a crappy PSU...like most say the wattage rating is a marketing scam...the opnly time you could achieve the actuall 400 wats would be to have the power supply be at 25-20c or less...since that is not normal and most run near 40c you probably rae only getting 70% of that. Start adding up all the power needs of the indivual devices and maybe you are the cusp....

Seasonics are high quality PSUs, although it could be a faulty one.

It is very weird. If both rails are geting to the mobo, then I should be getting 29A, way above what the ASUS manual recommends as a minimum. Even at 50%, my PSU should be sufficient.

I got this supply and it is great. Supplies over 30A on the 12V1 and 12V2 lines combines. It has a 24 pin ATX2 connector plus the 4 pin 12V connector and another 6 pin 12V connector for SLI. It will also plug right into any motherboard made for the 20 pin ATX if there is space for the connector to extend beyond motherboard connector. No adaptors are required.
