Someone please help me on this:

I have some computer problems on my system, so I upgrade.

I get:

XP 2000+
Shuttle AN35N Ultra
2 X 256 Mb PC3200

Well, I setup my system using an "older" 300w Pentium 4 approved power supply. Everything goes without a problem. I ordered a Enermax 350w power supply because of extra case fans, CD drives, Etc.

It comes from Newegg, I hook it up and nothing. The motherboard seems to not get any power. I recheck and re-seat the connections, but get nothing. I RMA it back to Newegg.

Today, I go by a local computer shop and get a new 350w power supply. Get it home and nothing. It doesn't seem to get any power.

Now, all this time I can hook to "older" 300w power supply back up and it powers on and runs.

My question is this:

Could there be any chance that I got two non-working power supplies as my 300w unit works, or is there any reason why a "new" unit wouldn't work? I have checked all the connections.

The older and newer power supplies have the two power connectors (the main one and the 12v)


Please help as I don't believe that I could have gotten two bad power supplies in a row.
 
...did you make sure the other PSUs had the voltage at 115 and that their power switches were in the "1" position?
 
Yes, the new power supplies as well as the 300w were all set to 115v.

I flipped the switch on the back of power supply from 0 to 1 several times. It did nothing.
 
Is there a reason why a newer power supply that was ATX 2.03 & ATX +12V 1.2 would not work on my Shuttle AN35N Ultra?
 
I have been baffled by PSU problems also. I bought a new Abit NF7-S board in Jan. It posted a couple of times and then it would not do anything( CPU fan spun about 1.5 seconds). Thinking it was a power supply problem, I bought a new Antec 430 and all was well. I kept the old PSU, even though I assumed it was bad.
Fast forward to Aug. A buddy of mine has a computer that quits working. He takes it to a Mom and Pop Shop and they sell him a new PSU, but the rig still won't post. He gives it to me and I check all the usual suspects (did not check the PSU!) and figure it is the motherboard. He decides to upgrade, I order the parts (XP1800+, Shuttle AK38) and put it together. Nothing! CPU fan spins about 1.5 seconds. I tried everything. Finally, I try a new in box PSU (400W) and bam works like a charm. He returns the old power supply he just bought, they check it out and say it was fine?? Now in Oct. his box goes down again!! I try everything else! Finally I try the original PSU I replaced in Jan. and the dadgummed thing worked perfectly!

Now I said all this to say," If you get any answers to your PSU problem, please clue me in!!!"
 
When you power on and the fan spins for no more than 1.5 second and there's no indication of power, it means the PSU "tripped" due to a short in the mobo or working internals. To pinpoint the source, it's always best to try the mobo off the case. If it works then the short ckt is in the mobo standoffs or back I/O panel.

You can also turn on the PSU while disconnected from the mobo. Use a paper clip and shape is in a "U" shape and short the green wire to any black wire in the mobo power connector. The PSU will come on.😎
