Hello, this is my first message on this forum.

I have a strange problem with my power supply, and I was wondering if anyone had experienced similiar.

I am building a PC with second hand parts I got from Ebay etc. so I got a new supply for it. It is a Hiper HPU-4S435 supply (435 Watts). So far so good. So I tested the supply in this PC I am using to write this message, it is an Athlon XP2100 with a 300W supply. The PC would run maybe for 2 or 3 seconds or 20 - 30 seconds before shutting down. Sometimes it would not switch on at all. I have built several PCs before but have never experienced anything like this - can anyone help?

The problem is that if the new supply can't power this low power machine, how is it gonna handle a higher power machine (for which it is intended). Is it because of different ATX standards or something? My old supply has -5v the new one has not. Will it be okay in a more powerful machine or does it sound seriously flawed? Does the Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo require -5V?

Thanks in advance.

No this motherboard (Jetway) is okay and properly installed, has been running for years. It is the new PSU I am having trouble with, with this motherboard. I will try it with the A7N8X later on today and let you know how I get on.

It is all set up and runing. -5V is not required. The PSU works OK with the A7N8X MB (the "new" MB). Sorry about any confusion in my original post - The old MB was a different one that apparantly did require -5V.
