? Power Supply Problem ?

I've been having problems with my office CPU in that it runs fine through the day, while it is being used, but when I leave it idle at night (for antivirus scans/updates) it will be "shut down" in the morning. Not shut down in the normal Windows sense, but there is still a power supply to the CPU in that all the lights are still on, but the screen is black and no response from any keyboard, mouse or even a soft reboot on the CPU.

To get the system restarted, I have to turn off the power supply at the back of the computer and wait. Usually within 30-45 minutes the system will be able to power back up. If I try to restart the system before then, all the fans start up and I get one or two beeps from the motherboard, the screen flickers as if it is getting a signal, and then nothing. I don't even get a POST from the BIOS or hear my hard drives spinning.

Last week I suspected a power supply problem and replaced the PSU with an Antec 350W PS and everything went well last week with no hiccups. Unfortunately, this week I started having the problems again. I doubt a heat problem, because I have even run the system with the side plate off overnight ( plus I have 2 Antec case fans in and the system is not overclocked at all) There is not even that much running inside the system ( 700 Mhz TBird, 2 Hard drives, and a CDRW as I use this system as a kind of "file storage/server)

Obviously, I could easily get around this problem if I just turned the system off every night and resarted in the AM, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or ideas, before my next step of replacing the motherboard...

Thanks in advance for any ideas/comments.

Well you have ruled the PSU out , so I suspect something related to the motherboard .

Check your motherboard manufacturer to see if there is an update for your bios .

oops forgot to add a few other thoughts , also check your OS (especially Win2k/XP) for power management options such as Hibernate ,etc and also check your bios regarding power management , you might want to give your dusty manual a thorough read :D
