My friend's computer went dead, we're sure that it's the power supply. My question is, can I put a power supply from a old computer I have into his? It's a 220v power supply. His computer is an AMD K6-2 like 450MHz. Can I put it in? Will I encounter any problems?

Assuming your friend is in the US, the power supply should be running on the 110v setting, NOT the 220v. This could be why it appears dead.

On the other hand, if you're referring to the other power supply, and it's 220 WATTS, then it may work, but it may be a little underpowered for today's systems. Most likely, you'll have to bite the bullet for a new power supply.

Oops! My fault! OK, I mixed up the v and watts :p OK, the Power Supply I have is 230 WATTS, my fault. Do you think that will work in his PC? Once again, it's a really old AMD K6-2!

It depends on what else he is running, but there is a good chance your power supply will be sufficient.

If he has multiple hard drives, cdrom drives, case fans, etc., it may be a problem.

Go ahead and give it shot.

Give it a shot. Assuming it's an ATX, there's not that much to it, so go ahead and try.
