This is on my son's computer, and with him being stationed overseas I would like to get this right (or as right as possible) the first time.
He tells me he's having random shut downs: no blue screen, no warnings or anything: just shuts down. Usually happens during gaming (unknown time and possibly random) and usually will happen again shortly after the restart. He has checked all connections, and cleaned the inside.
Computer is home built and about 3 years old.
Specs as I remember them:
i5-2500k, 8GB RAM, 1 TB Hybrid drive (maybe 1 or 2 additional 1 TB HDDs),
HD-7850 (mid range gaming card?), a 600 OCZ Modstream Power supply and 4 or 5 fans. (came with the case which I believe to a Scout something)
IIRC from running the calcs before building that 600 watts was more than sufficient but he has changed the video card and installed the hybrid drive.
So with that said, are we basically correct in it being a power supply issue or are we overlooking something?
And second if it is a power supply what would be a good unit (modular) and should he up the wattage?
Budget wise I'm not sure but I'm sure under $75 (before rebate?) would make him happy.
TIA
