Power supply pin question

Recently i ordered a coolermax power supply for my desktop. The powersupply it originally had came with the case and has started to fail.

The problem is my motherboard is a 20 pin mobo but the powersupply is a 24 pin. I looked online for an adapter and have only found ones that change 20 to 24 but not 24 to 20. Can you just put that in backwards with the adapter connecting to my 24 pin and the 20 part connecting to the motherboard?

Found the cables, looks like its going to be 10 bucks :(

that is the one i bought.

Image of 20+4 pin on the COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power RS-430-PMSR/P.

If you look at the last 4 pins on the right you can see that they can slide off. Is this not the case with yours?

Edit:
Ouch! I just looked at the eXtreme Power 430W (RS-430-PCAR/P) images on Coolermaster.com and it does look like a solid 24pin.

Hi, Never done this but have read of it here several times. Supposedly 24 pin connectors will plug into 20 pin sockets and will only go the correct way. Extra pins just hang out in the breeze. Extra pins are duplicates of pins already in the 20 pin connector. 20 pin board does not need them. MAYBE! Good luck, Jim

This is what I have heard to. I don't think it always worked perfectly. But I do believe it usually does
