Power supply orientation in P180b and mid fan.

I picked up a P180b and a Cooler Master iGreen 500W PSU. This PSU has a big fan at the bottom of it. I am confused about how I should orient the PSU in this chassis.

I havent tried fitting it inside yet. Should the fan be facing up or down?

Also, I have a raptor and 7200.10 in the lower HDD cage. Would it make sense to move the fan from in between to the front?

I have mine facing up, but either way should work.

I think the fan in the middle of the bottom section should bring air from the front, through the HD cage, and through the PSU. That's the idea, anyway.

Any particular reason why you had it facing up? Did you notice any temperature differences?

i have it facing down..there is enough clearance at the bottom ...plus that mid fan. It is probably all overkill 🙂

Anyone has a good technical reason why it should be oriented in a particular direction? Seems like the choices are random .

I put mine with the fan facing down because that way the letters on the side were still right side up. My temps are very good.

While the PS will work with the fan facing up, it's not optimal oriented that way.

The PS is designed to pull cool air in, blow it over the components and push the hot air out the back. Heat rises.

If the PS is upside down, it's actually fighting to push the rising air BACK INTO the ps chassis and out the back.

I have a P180; there's about 3/4" of space under the PS "platform" that it sits on. Plenty of room to pull in cool air.

I have the fans in my P180 in their default configuration, all on "low'. The air coming out of my PS is just a few degrees C over room temperature, even when under full load. The two-chamber design of the P180 works like a charm provided you have the slide-cover things (where the PS wires go thru) closed tightly.

Air is a fluid, it doesn't care which way it goes. I have mine facing down just so the power supply label is right-side-up. I stuff my unused power connectors on top.
