Power Supply or motherboard???

I installed a new 650watt power supply into my new case. I plugged usb cable in wrong way and the motherboard give in will not power on. i removed usb cables and bluetooth adaptor after 3 mins. I Bought a new motherboard which worked okay for 45mins then powered off and restarted with some clicking sounds think it is hardrive then restrted a few times and then same again it has eventually give up and will not power on again. one new power supply to two motherboards? Please help.
