power supply observation

I just changed my power supply tonite from a 300W to a 350W. I wasn't expecting any increase in overclockability but with the new PS, I can now boot into Windows at 1GHZ and then I'll immediately lockup, but at least I can fully boot to the Windows desktop.

With the 300W, I'd always lockup just after posting. I can even run at 980 (9.5 x 100 FSB 103) stable now where I could only run 960 (9.5 x 100 FSB 101) before.

Does this seem logical that a more powerful PS would increase overclockability?
 
When you overclock your processor it needs more power that power comes from the PSU,so the more spare power the PSU can deliver to the processor the better chance of higher overclocking ability of course other factors like,ram,cooling,current supply & even processor quality all play a part in overclocking performance.
 
Or your newer PS eliminate some more noise better giving you better and cleaner power.... so the APC people claims about their UPSs.... don't know how much a clean/noise-free power source will do for oc-ing.
 
Its not the total power capability thats important its how 'clean' the power is. Higher quality supplies have better regulation (eg 5volts IS 5 volts plus or minus 5%) The amount of AC ripple on the DC line is lower.
 
Now, perhaps this 350Watt PS which i paid $52US for is actually of some use. Maybe that's the reason why my processor, TNT2 Vanta and the PC100 ram overclocks so well. hmmm, a point to consider...
