Power supply not turning on

First of all let me apologize if this is an inherently stupid question but what should happen if you have a completely empty case and you put your PSU in, plug it in, and then turn it on?

Mine does absolutely nothing. Should the PSU's fan at least turn on? I'm wondering of i have a bad PSU.

Thanks!

A power supply will not turn on without a motherboard or all you need to do to power up the PSU is to "Ground" the wire. Meaning, connecting the "Green" wire to any of the 6 "Ground" wires from the same ATX connector and the PSU would power up like it was connected to a mobo!

This is how.

Second paragragh.

Please do make very very sure to connect the right wires. Connecting a black wire to a red or yellow, or any color other than green will result in a short circuit where none should exist - the wire will burn off the insulation, and possibly damage the PSU.

Green to black. Only green. To black.
