Power Supply Limits

So, what are the limits on power supplies? For example, could an 420 ATX power supply support a P4, six case fans, 6 hard drives, two CD drives, and then the standard floppy/video/sound card stuff? I don't really know anything about power supplies. Is the type of video/sound card important? I've never really had a problem, but I wanna add my Dell WD hard drive when it gets here, and I realized my power supply might be working kinda hard soon. Thanks.

OMFG! Okay, this question is asked three times a day. FFS! Use the search function. Also, read the FAQ or look at any of the dozen articles which will tell you how to calculate how much power you need....LINK

It also depends on what amps you have running at certain voltages to know how much wattage you have for certain items....

p4s run on 12v rail while amd athlons run on 3.3 and 5v rails...so it depends on components and the voltage they will running off of.....
