Well, I just got this new ps : http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18184&vpn=OCZ600GXSSLI&...;manufa

Thing is, it won't boot when in my rig, I have no idea what the problem is. I tried to put it in my old p3 550 mhz and it worked well.... but it doesnt work in my amd 64... I know it isn't my mobo either since my old psu works very well in both comp. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

The only thing I see could mess it up is the fact that is is a 24 pin connector and my old psu was 20 pin with a 24 pin converter. I really don't see how that would make it not boot tho since my mobo is supposed to go with a 24 pin...

What it does when I press the power button is a very slight noise with a like slight noise of powering up but it just doesn't do anything. The fan on the psu doesn't even start moving.

Any help?

My current computer specs:

Motherboard: Chaintech vnf4 ultra
Video card: geforce 7600 gt
Cpu: Amd 64 3800 + venice
Memory : 2x 512 mb pc3200 corsair dual channel
Hard drive : 200 gb 7200 rpm WD + 120 gb diamondmax 8

First thing I would say is check the plug on the PS and the plug on the motherboard to make sure a contact wasn't pushed back into the plug or something of that nature. If you had a third PS I would try it to see if you just got lucky with the original PS.

I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean but there is something I just noticed with it :

One of the 24 pins on the connector lacks a wire.. it's like an empty hole with nothing wired to it.. I don't know if that's normal but I would assume not since it's different from my other PSU. I still wouldn't understand why it would work in one comp and not in the other though.

As for having a third psu.. I do have one but it's such crap I'm not sure if it would be safe to test with it. It's only 20 pin and it doesn't even have a 4 pin connector for the cpu I think if that's possible... Oh well.

You might have shorted the PSU while changing it out. This will cause the breaker to need resetting. Unplug the PSU from the wall for 5 minuets and it will be reset. You might have to remove the mainboard from the case and power it up that way.

The missing pin/wire in the 24 pin plug is the -5V line. It was dropped with the last ATX revision. The -12V is soon to be dropped. Look around here http://www.formfactors.org/

There are metal contacts inside the female plastic plug that sometime get pushed out when you plug the ATX or any connector into it's male socket.

Which pin is missing? You may have a PSU with out a -5V rail and therefore no pin. The new MOBO's do not use -5V so many of the newer PSU's do not have it.

I just tried it again after a good 2-3 hours + of my last try with no luck.

To sum it up: This new OCZ won't power up in my amd 64 but will power up in my old p3 550 ghz, currently though, I am typing this post from my amd 64 using another old psu. So why would the OCZ work in one and not the other? I am kinda reluctant in taking my motherboard out of the case again but if you think this could fix it, I will try it. If not and no one else has an ide as to what it might be, I will try to RMA it. Or maybe this psu isn't compatible with my mobo or something? Or is that not possible?

I just checked and I don't think that's what happened :[

Edit : Ok, I took my mobo out of the case and tried the psu and worked.. seated it back into the case and it's up and working now =]
