I got a 230 watt power supply and i'm putting in an 800 athlon t'bird. AMD doesn't reccomend anything lower than a 250. I also got a Geforce 2 in the agp slot, 48x cdrom and a 7200 RPM hardrive. This will all be on a A7 board. Will it do any damage running with a 230 or should I trade it in?

I don't think it will do any damage, but see if you can get at least a 300. 7200 RPM harddrives suck up a lot of power in addition to all your other devices.

The TBirds use alot of power as does the GeForce (Although I think the GeForce cards use less now than when first introduced)...I would recommend a larger power supply..At least 300 Watts and one that is AMD approved (IMO)....I had added 5 additional case fans to my case to cool off the CPU and Motherboard (1GHz + Asus A7V) and I'm sure they pull a few watts themselves...

Good Luck!!!

Geforce SDR or DDR? I hear the DDR's take up quite a bit of power.

I've got a 250w case for my Classic Athlon, PS Fan, Case fan, and double fan for the proc. and haven't had a single hiccup with its being on for days straight now.

The worst that will happen is you will need to get another PS. might as well see if it works fine first. I doubt it would do any damage, it just might not be stable.
