I am planning on building a pc with the gigabyte k8nxp-sli mobo and i'm not sure which power supply would be good for me. I have been looking at the Ultra X-Connect Modular 500W Power Supply and the Aspire ATX-AS550W-BK Chameleon Power Supply. I am under the impression that the Ultra PSU does not come standard with a 24-pin ATX connector but a 20-pin to 24-pin adapter can be purchased. The Ultra is atrractive because of the modular configuation. The Aspire however does have the 24-pin connector but does not benefit from the modular config. What are peoples experiences with this mobo and power supplies? Would the Ultra work okay with the 20-24-pin adapter or would it be advisable to purchase a power supply build for nforce4 mobos? If anybody has any other suggestions for Power Supplies those would be welcome as well.

EDIT: Also, can somebody explain the Dual Power System (DPS) and what its requirements as far as a power supply would be. Thanks.

I currently have the K8NXP-SLI and it is a great board, not sure why it isnt a hit on the anandtech boards but is constantly sold out at newegg. Not compltely sure on the workings of the DP6 daughter card but the system can run without it, supposedly gives you better overall system stability when overclocking and normal operation. I also purchased the UltraX-Connect PSU and ended up returning it, couldnt keep up with the demands of the system (4-Sata Drives) and caused constant restarts. Made strange noises when I started games, like HALO,HL2, and etc. Switched out the Seasonic S12 600w and havent looked back since. System has been stable for 3 Months now using the seasonic and K8NXP combo.

thanks for the recommendation. I have also recently found the ThermalTake PurePower W0057 500W Power Supply and I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with this power supply. Is it reliable for a SLI system. At some point I would like to upgrade to high end cards and I noticed that nvidia recommends 500-550W, +12V @ 30A, and many PSUs have +12 @ 18A, how would this affect the system?

The ThermalTake PurePower W0057 500W Power Supply is a good choice for this motherboard, however for a few more bucks you can get the Thermaltake W0049RUC Silent Pure Power 680W Power Supply which will run very quietly and provide you the power for anything you may add in the future.

18A @ 12V = Your system probably won't boot.

DPS = Dual Power System. It's either a 6 or 8 way converter.. It's stabalizes the power going to the CPU.
I suggest the Enermax 535W.
