Hi All,

I'm thinking about getting a new PSU because my current is not functioning (Cooler master 460 superb power supply) as it should.

My PC gives a blue screen when ever I try to run XP Pro Service pack 2 install CD.
I googled the error code and MS mentions the MBR could be courpt. I tried another hard drive but I receive the same error when I run the XP cd.
I tried another power supply but it still does the same thing.
Any ideas?

My pc

My current system consists of:
Core i3 540
Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H
X1800XL
3 SATA HDD's
1 IDE HDD's
2 GB Ram
3 case fans
1 DVD Burner
Multi card reader

All help would be great.

I would test your memory with memtest. Possible you might have something else going on though. If memory checks out, maybe try a XP Pro with integrated SP3? I'm guessing you can get one from Microsoft for a small fee.

Any PSU 300 watts or higher will be fine for your setup.

Hi, I managed to figure out what was the issue. There is a setting in the BIOS -> "SATA MODE" - if it’s set to ACHI it has problems booting or installing an O/S.

I set it to IDE mode and now my PC booted up fine so I moved on to installing XP Pro on a new hard drive.

I managed to format the hard drive, the PC restarted, went into the XP config screen for more setup options.

It said 39 min remaining and “installing devices” then it crashes (BLUE SCREEN!!!!)

With an >
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP 0X0000000a (0x00000010, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0X8051AA58)

Any idea what is wrong and how to fix this?
All help would be great.

I concur with dualsmp and recommend always running a memory test and then disk test before bothering to install an OS.

Unless SP2 is desired for some reason, start with an SP3 disc (which are simple enough to make from another PC). Even so, it will not have the necessary drivers and especially if AHCI is preferred then it is necessary to add the storage driver with the F6 boot floppy schtick (yes, it can be done later but it is more complicated).
