Power supply for 6800gt

Ok, so im about to buy the eVGA 6800gt(agp), but I need to know if my 400 watt coolmax powersupply will suffice. I have a dvd-rom,dvd-rw, and two hard drives hooked up to it.

Thanks ahead of time

what's your amperage for each rail?

12v+ : ?? A
3.3v+: ?? A

so on and so forth

at least your 12v+ rail should give out 18+ amps, if it's lower, better switch to a better power supply as soon as possible, or kaboom. Make sure it is a brand name like antec, OCZ, enermaxs, etc

What are the rest of your specs?

I would get somthing with 25+ amps, 18A will get the job done but its good to have a little bit more.

Do a search and you will find so many PSU threads.

If you have an older processor then 15A is enough. I used a 6800 GT on an Athlon XP system (XPs ran from the 5V line) and a 15A generic 400W powered that for several months without any problems.

actually i posted the wrong info..oops! 🙂

+3.3v 30A
+5v 40A
+12v 18A
-5v 1.0A
-12v 1.0A
+5vsb 2.5A

I have an AMD 64 3200+
1 gig ram
2 dvd drives
2 hard drives

by the looks of it, you'll do fine 🙂. Heck i used to use my rig w/ even craptacular product, giving out 12+ amps on the 12 V+ rail lol

I'd say fine, but to be honest, I'd suggest getting a nice quality, slightly better powersupply if you can feasibly do it.
