Power supply - fan = trouble?

I recently got a P133/16mb for free from a friend of the family. It's running a 200w Enlight AT power supply. The fan on the back of the power supply sounds like a vacuum. If feasible, I'd like to remove/disable it, rendering the machine virtually silent. It will be used only as a print server. Do you think it will overheat? Please, no lectures on the fact that I should go out and buy a fanless power supply. I know I could do that, but I want to have your opinions on whether or not what I mentioned above it possible. 🙂

no one knows the answer to that. it might be fine, it might not. the proper thing to do would be to get a quiet fan and replace the loud one. the best of both worlds 🙂

You can do that but I'm not sure how long it would last even with the low horsepower you're trying to support. Plenty of systems back then would ultimately fail when the power supply fan stopped spinning. If the fan is making a racket then I would think that the bearing or sleeve is just shot. Going to someplace like SVC, Coolerguys or Plycon would set you up with a cheap new afn for around $10 shipped...OR, big or here and be >> careful << open the case, remove the power supply, takes it's cover off and then reinstall it without the cover. If you're really low on re$ources then this might get the thing just enough ventilation to last until xmas...when you put a new fan on your list... 😀
