Power supply Fan replacements

Have two PS that have bad 120mm fans one an Antec 650 earth or something or another and the other an off brand , Question is can I use regular case 120mm fans? Does this seem to happen a lot with fans that face down?

Thanks

If you want to be totally safe you would want to replace the fan with exact same model. If that's not possible, try to replace it with model that has the same or higher RPM as the original fan to ensure that your PSU does not overheat as the PSU manages fan speed. As far as going bad, generally speaking there is more stress on a fan that runs horizontally, especially so if it's a cheap sleeve bearing fan. However AD1212HB-A71GL looks to be a ball bearing fan and should have been more reliable, I guess it was just its time.

Ok thanks for the advice I think your right, was able to find the exact model plug and all at various sites kind of pricey but I just won't go out to dinner for one night.

Ive had trouble with an ADDA fan in a new Antec 620 High Current PSU - annoying clicking axial spring. (Apparently that can happen any time with these fans. Ended up replacing it with an inexpensive sleeve bearing fan which is okay as the fan runs axially vertical. Sleeves are generally quieter too, at least when they are new or not badly worn.)

Ordinarily one would ensure that the replacement fan is of a compatible type regarding static vs airflow, CFM volume, start voltage and speed control type. It appears though that your 120 mm ADDA is just a plain ole 2 wire airflow.

If you should begin to encounter annoying intermittent "clicking", it is technically correctable. I fixed mine by carefully slightly deforming the spring ends, but some replaced the spring with one from a different model fan the next size smaller.

You might be able to repair your current fan through disassembly, cleaning, repacking the bearing using moly grease and adjusting the axial spring then reassembling.

Thanks for the links and information. The second link is chocked full of fan info. I've already ordered the ADDA fan but the off brand PS fan I have that has the same problem I will follow your recommendations. Ha I just looked at my newegg purchase history and my other PS with the same fan problem is the AeroCool ZERODBA S620 purchased in 2006 dang time flies.

So shinny..
