Hello,
I think my Corsair AX850 power supply is in the process of failing. Basically what happened when I booted up one day was I heard a tuttuttuttutut stuttering (almost like an out of tune motorcycle or lawnmower) and it seemed like the power was oscillating on and off. I powered cycled the machine a few times, and I was able to reproduce the issue maybe about 4 times out of 10. I have since replaced the power supply with a Corsair HX650, and the computer seems to be working.
My concern is with the hard drives of my system (WD500 Blue, WD1TB black, WD2TB green). I am concerned that the power supply dying may have damaged them in some way. So I am running the HDs through an error scan in HDTune, and I am also running the WD Data Lifeguard full scan on them. I have also checked the SMART stats in SpeedFan and there are no errors or reallocated sectors. Is this sufficient?
If the hard drives pass the HDTune and WD Data Lifeguard tests, would you say they are healthy? My data (family photos) is worth more than the hard drives, but at the same time I don't want to buy new hard drives unnecessarily.
Thanks for your help.
