Power supply decisions

Do you folks feel the quality and reliability of the PCP&C 510's are worth splurging for? If so, keeping in mind that I do not have nor plan to buy a PCI-E video card within the next year, which is the more future-proof way to go, the Deluxe or Express? I've got a lot of expensive hardware so power supply quality is of the utmost importance, but whether these are worth it compared to their competitors is what I'm unsure about.

From what I've read, PCP&C PSUs are worth every penny. I have NEVER heard/read anything bad about them. If this PC is mission critical or you demand utmost stability, I would consider splurging on one of their power supplies.

As for future-proof, go for the Express. It seems to have more connectors and 24-pin/6-pin compatibility. That will come in handy down the road.

BTW, PC's specs? Just curious.

Sarcasm meter jumped a bit. I hope you're joking about suggesting that power supply. MTBF 30,000 hours at 25° C is awful in the realm of PSUs.

I have first hand experience with PCP&C / Enermax / Antec / and Sparkle..

the PCP&C supplies aren't all they're hyped to be.. and they're noisy as hell! imagine a tornado next to your desk..

PCP&C is like the chrysler of power supplies: big / heavy / US built / loud and ugly, gets the job done
but there's a better overall (price/design/function) alternative: Enermax

I love how the PSU is listed as "500W", but then you click on the pic, and it clearly shows "400W max" on the side of it - that's a "max" rating, not a sustained one - that's probably only a 300W-effective, at best. Considering that they are selling it for $10 - it has to be pure garbage.

I have that PSU. It's good, but it's loud and it is hot. It's very hot. Walking into my room is like walking into a freaking sauna when my computer is on.

Then again, they're the only PSU maker that I trust.

Well, I wouldn't say it's mission critical, but obviously, as with most people, stability is priority #1. I'd just much rather spend the cash now on the best, rather than regret it at some point. I won't go into a drawn out list of specs, but I've got nearly a grand wrapped up in CPU/GPU alone (3400+, XTPE). I've got 380w worth of hardware hooked an Antec SL400 (18A 12V) that only has a max output of 380, so it's time has come.

I know the price is a tad inflated, but they've got free sleeving, and I figure after the cost and time it'd take to sleeve it myself it just about evens out.
