Power Supply / Conditioners

We just bought a

  • Yamaha RX-2020 Aventage
  • Aquos 55"
  • TiVo Series 3
  • TiVo Series 2
  • XBox 360
  • Sony Playstation
  • Xfinity Cable Box
  • Speakers (Unknown - we are still looking - suggestions there would be appreciated - we need at least three speakers and a sub-woofer.

We looked at a few of the power conditioners - and wonder if a Cyberpower would be sufficient. The Monster is good of course, but we have used the Cyberpower for out computers with no problems.

Can someone recommend a couple of other power conditioners to look at (preferably on Amazon) that could suit our needs?

Both. We do not have that much power surges and usually the power just goes out for 10-20 seconds.

If there is one that maybe even has some type of screen to review, that would be good, but that it not really a priority. The CyberPower 1285AVR has been great for our computers.

We just did not know if one the CyberPower would be fine

We also have an M-Cell and a router as well so all the equipment is not using WiFi.

We would guess that 1500Watts would be more than sufficient.
 
As others have said, there's no point in power conditioners. If you want good protection with cleanliness, invest in a good Series Mode Surge Protector for power, and good grounding blocks + in-line surge arrestors for Cable. For power conditioning you can get the best there is by getting something like an Eaton Online UPS that will give you pure sine wave power and battery backup capability. Power Conditioners are wholly unnecessary.

Which anomaly are you protecting from. A short list includes frequency variation, noise, surge, harmonics, RFI, voltage variations, phase variations, open neutral, and EMI/EMC. Nothing protects from all. Which one is your concern?

For example, most voltage variations are already made irrelevant by protection inside each electronics. Many spikes are simply noise. Potentially destructive surges may occur once every seven years. Other voltage variations can be harmful to motorized appliances but remain ideal power to electronics. What are you trying to solve?

Some manufacturers hype products that do not do what advertising implies. Monster has a long history of duplicating these ineffective products while selling them at even higher prices. That is obvious if decisions are based in manufacturer specs. But many believe Monster is superior because it costs more. A Monster is often equivalent to a similar product selling in Wal-Mart for $9. But many eyes glaze over rather than read spec numbers.

Again, what anomaly are you trying to solve? Nobody can recommend anything without that answer. Only then can a recommendation come with what separates myths from reality: manufacturer specifications.
