Power Supply... Can I test to see how it works under a load?

I have an Austin 450 watt power supply that came with my chieftec case and when I play homeworld2 it crashes to the desktop. I have updated all my drivers and from I can tell everything is working, I think it is my power supply. Is there a program I can run that puts my system to the test and monitors my power supply to see if the voltage varies enough to be killing my game?

when I play the game, the game ends and I am back to my desktop. Like it would do if i were to exit the game, but i will be playing and then then game quits and I am back to my desktop... I am running xp pro and nothing shows up in the event log and no error log is generated by the game

nah, it is a single player game. I am not connected to the internet when I play. I thought it was an overheating issue, but I ran a program to monitor the CPU temp and it only went up a couple degrees. everything else is normal, so that is why I believe it is the power supply. When i start games the system kind of gets quieter, as in you can hear it is under stress.

I thought of that too and my computer is in the basement, average temp is around 60 degrees (F). I left it off for 2 weeks and came back to play the game, same thing :|

Power supply problems wouldn't cause any specific app to crash. If the PSU was faulty the whole system would crash. You need to look elsewhere. Post some specs of your machine.

What OS?

If WinXP or 2k, have you checked the EVENT LOG for clues?

Are you running an AntiVirus program while trying to play the GAME?

I am running xp and like i said earlier, the event logs do not have any errors. I do not have any firewall or antivirus software running.

Have you checked the HW2.log file to see if there is any indication
of what it is hanging on?

Also, you can try the following to eliminate a soundcard issue.
Add the following to your HW2 shortcut (or create one).

C:\program files\Sierra\Homeworld2\bin\release\Homeworld2.exe" -nosound
