Did some searching on the forums and i cant locate teh link that powersupply locator...jes tryin to see if im stressing my PS a little too hard
 
yup that one is horrible. there used to ba a amperage calculator that was very accurate, but i dont think it exists anymore.

It's been my own deduction that the several sites with calculating engines in place are making huge allowances for newbies who don't buy decent quality psu's. I've compared Okia, Powmax, and Raidmax psu's rated at 450 and 500 watts to Fortron 150-180 Watt units, and the Fortons are slightly heavier. And don't try to argue that a lightweight unit is as good as the heavier ones. Just start weighing the good ones, and you'll soon see!

So, if the calculator doubles the wattage needed from a decent psu, it's about right for one of those junk units! Meanwhile, there was a calculator on a personal site, that belonged to a Japanese computer geek, that I thought was excellent, and didn't get his bookmark backed up on that last session with that PC's former OS install before its Hdd went down the tubes. I did get almost everything else, and at the time, hadn't heard about the freezer trick.

{P.S. -- added in Edit -- I found the bookmark, after all, just in the "wrong" folder. What I like is that Takaman includes Amperage calculations. I've plugged in the specs for a general use workhorse I will be assembling to replace this one I'm using now, my surfing and messaging machine, since it's beginning to get pretty long in the tooth. Takamon's calculator says 300 Watts. JS' Custom said 324 Watts, and "eXtreme" came up with 271.}

wow! that's the erxact one i'm talking about!
 
I've had only one "gripe" about Takamon's calculator since I first found it. I like to collect documentation for each new PC build as I'm planning it {and I work up plans for half again more than I ever begin to buy parts for, and end up actually buiding about 80% of those that I have started to buy the parts for (so I have spares of stuff on occasion)}. I would like to have the calculated totals show up when I print the page after plugging in the particulars, but I have to manually write those in after the hard copy is in my hands.
