Tonight I started expericing some funny things with my computer. My computer started beeping at reboot and displayed a bunch of line and garbage on the screen so I couldn't see anything. When it didn't do this it would lock up the computer when I got into windows. Turned off the computer and started pulling cards but had the same problem. Then the computer didn't want to turn on but when I hit the top of the unit above the power supply it would kick the system on and when I hit it again it would shut off. I decided to pull the power supply and replace it. Everything seems to work fine now. I opened the old unit up and blew it out. It wasn't too dirty but would the dust and such cause it to act funny. It's only a few years old and worked fine til now.

Could the unit be bad or something else. Everything seems to work fine now with a different unit.

Unless you just added more components (which would most likely mean that the PS wasn't strong enough), it was most likely a bad PSU. It is possible it could still work, but other than a PS tester, or putting it another computer, I couldn't really tell you.
