Power supply and heatsink distress

Alright, here's my situation:

I recently got an ABIT av8 mobo and a64 3000+ cpu to replace my previous rig's. I kept my antec truepower 430 psu, a dvd-rom drive and cd burner, antec case, western digital 60 gig hd, and geforce 4 ti4600 for the new system. The new parts are the av8 mobo, cpu, thermaltake venus 12 cooler, and an oem 80 gig hd.

After assembling everything, I didn't notice any issues within the case until bootup. My primary case fan and heatsink fan quickly stop spinning upon bootup. I figured that with all the optical drives, the psu might not be holding up, but removing power from the old hard drive and disc drives yielded no results. The power supply previously supported an athlon xp 2000+ with one hard drive, two disc drives and the video card so I don't believe it's bad. The heatsink has one 3 pin cable connected to the mobo and a standard molex connected for power. The additional fan also has a molex connected.

Any help is much appreciated.

Welcome to the Forums :) Is the screen showing a POST display, or does it remain blank? Also, what brand is the new 80GB drive?

There has been some kind of conflict mentioned here a few times between Abit Mobos and Antec PSU's

Well, I'm too afraid to let it get to the post screen with all the fans slowing to a stop upon boot. The new hd is also western digital.

WD hard drives have four jumper options: Master, Slave, Cable Select, and Single Drive. If your drive is on a cable by itself, then set its jumper to Single Drive, and not any of the other three.

It might also be the case that your board does not have a BIOS version that supports your CPU version. If it doesn't, then you're kinda stuck :p and would probably want to get Abit to send you a new BIOS chip that is pre-programmed with a BIOS that supports your 3000+.

The fans powering off might be the Abit's FanEQ feature at work. My K8N-E Deluxe has that capability, it'll turn the CPU fan off completely until the CPU hits whatever threshold temperature I set, then it'll kick the fan in again. That would only affect fans that draw their power from the motherboard, however.

There is an issue with some Antec PS. Try a different PS and see what happens.

I have an ABIT A8V with an AMD 64 3500+ (939) in an Antec case with a 380W true power PS.

It's running very smoothly with 2 HDD's, 2 optical drives and 2 case fans.

I would be suspicious that there's either a problem with the heat sink mounting or the mobo shorting to case

With the Abit, is there a way to tell what version of BIOS it has without POSTing? Like maybe a sticker on the box, a sticker on the BIOS chip, or in the manual? If there's a way to tell, that would be handy to know. Welcome to the Forums, by the way :) Looks like you found my Wolf avatar :D

Nothing that I see (box, manual or chip) indicates the rev #.

Mine came with 15 and booted right up.

. . . by the way Looks like you found my Wolf avatar

I have a large Wolf calendar hanging beside my computer. It just seemed to fit when I had to chose a screen name and was really happy to see the avatar too. You did good :)

Ok, well I got a new power supply (Ultra 500W) and the fans are working perfectly. The problem now is that I am not getting any video. I have checked the video card (GeForce 4 ti4600) and it is in the right position. Would the most probable problem be that the heatsink mount is incorrect? Any further suggestions would be appreciated.
