Power Supplies OCZ Vs. Enermax

Which one would you pick if you were building right now. Not sure of what reputation Ebermax has. I have heard nothing but great things about OCZ

The OCZ 600 Powerstream

The Enermax

I purchased the OCZ Powerstream 520W for my SLI rig. Read the reviews this PS is a beast. You can power a small city with it. I was considering the Enermax 600W myself but was swayed to the OCZ because of the unbelievable reviews by both pros and customers. Plus I asked a friend of mine who has been buiding computers professionally for 10 years and he said hands down go with this ps.

Out of those two, i would go with the OCZ. But seriously...you dont need 600Watts of power.

For real, you can get away with 520watts (easily)

I just thought of future builds for the 600 watt ocz. If I am going to spend this much on a build I figure what the hell. At least the case and PSU will last through 2-4 builds.

Listen I'm not a guy that economizes when building a rig. I like the latest and greatest. On this one though I do have to tell you that the OCZ 520W will carry you through 3 more systems. It is just an amazing performer and can probably power 2 SLI systems if it had to.

I like this thinking and I am doing same thing.....Who knows with SLI systems and dual core cpus and BX factor what kind of things we will need in the next 1-2 years...

get the 600watt OZ at excalibur for 195.00 and then have it shipped ground for 4.00 dollars...

The main thing id be looking at between these 2 PSU is the efficiency ...the Enermax is rated at 80% and the OCZ @ 70%

These power consumtion charts show how well the Enermax handles the loads and when it comes on strong is when the Enermax really shines. The OCZ in this review did well also.

Wait for a few reviews of this 600 watt Enermax to come out, I am sure it will be a top pick PSU.

Get the Enermax if pure performace is what you are after , get the OCZ if your willing to give up a smidge for that sweet nickel finish. 🙂

The OCz is better...has better numbers for the +12v rails and also has 2 of them...It also has 24/20 pin capability as well as pci-e cables and specifically states "ATX12V version 2.0, BTX, EPS12V, and PCI Express. OCZ600ADJ also support ATX12V version 2.01."

DID YOU EVEN READ THE FIRST POST IS THIS THREAD? OBVIOUSLY YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE...NOW GO AWAY BEFORE I EMBARASS YOU FURTHER.

The OCZ does have slightly better numbers for the 12v rails, 20a and 18a vs. 18a and 17a. If the Enermax is so much more efficient, though, isn't that better? The Enermax also has the 24/20 pin capability, etc.

My question somewhat pertains to this in that I was wondering if either of these or the PC Power and Cooling ones would power an FX-55, 2x6800GT, 4xWD Raptors, 1 Seagate 400GB along with all the other regulars.

Good question.... 2 power hungry pci-e cards...a power hungry FX55 (at least amd power hungry)...massive amount of drives and I am sure fans....

Throw in maybe some ocing and I think this could bring maybe most sub 500 weatt power supplies to their knees quickly....

They probably would, but seriously, who needs all that sh1t anyway?

The only things that really use alot of power ther are the FX-55 and the GTs. ... 400 quality watts is probably enough but id be more comfortable with 500 watts.

The Enermax being discussed is rated @ 600 watts and 80 % efficient or 480 real useable watts....the OCZ is also 600 watts but 70% efficient or 420 real watts.

The new 480 watt Noisetaker is also 80% so 384 real watts....id be comfortable with any of these for that system.

Umm... no. If a PSU is rated for 400W it can actually output 400W peak. Power consumption is measured from the wall. So a system that draws 350W from the wall through an 80% efficient PSU is actually delivering 280W to the computer. A 70% efficient PSU would have to draw 400W from the wall in order to produce 280W to the system.

Well I have everthing but 2 more Raptors as I am still torn as to whether or not to buy two more.

Hmm, I had not though about it that way. I guess you are right now that I think about it. Still though that extra wasted power is heat and heat is not good for the PSU or your PC.

Either way though just because a PSU is rated for 400 watts does'nt mean it can actually deliver it.

None of these PSUs have been tested for maximum output so wether or not the PSU can deliver what its rated for is not known. Again though, these are both top notch PSUs but id still go for the tried and true Enermax over OCZ.

You spending that much why play around with middle range PSUs? Get Turbocool 510 from PC power and Cooling... read some reviews you'll see.
