It's mainly related to CPU since my main question revolves around switching from Dual Core to Quad Core, but of course other components have to follow the change so I included all my questions here too. So right now I have the following "temporary" system:
Core 2 Duo E6600 @ stock (friend's)
Corsair DDR2-800 2GB @ stock (friend's)
GA-X38-DQ6 (mine, brand new)
And the rest from my sig
My PSU is a NeoHE 550W from Antec, and so far so good with my "new" system above. I haven't seen any signs of "lack of power", at least as I said not so far, no random reboots, but everything is at stock ... and the Memory and CPU are both owned by a friend so I don't want to risk anything. But in January/February I will buy a Yorkfield Q9450, and I was wondering if my current PSU would keep up good with a Quad Core CPU, or if I would perhaps have to consider a better, more efficient/more stable PSU (perhaps a TruPower 850W again from Antec, or even a 1KW model). Also, let's not forget about five other components, which are: 2 x 250GB 7200.10 SATA HDD's from Seagate, one DVD-RW IDE Drive from LG, and a CD-RW IDE Drive again from LG, and lastly, one extra rear tower 80mm generic fan (generic but quite silent).
My future memory selection is already decided too.
So my next upgrade will look like:
Yorkfield Q9450 (I will certainly over-clock it, yes, in fact it's a guarantee)
GA-X38-DQ6
Corsair DDR2-1066 C5 2GB (I'll have a 10% credit for that one, and it's on the Gigabyte's supported memory list for the X38-DQ6 too)
ASUS EN8800GTS 640MB
SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
2 x 250GB SATA 7200.10
1 x DVD-RW IDE
1 x CD-RW IDE
Extra case fan connected to the mobo, of course
And hmmm ... yeah, that's pretty much about it I think, at least right now.
So do you guys think an Antec NeoHE 550W should be able to keep up with the future system shown above ?
That's only one or perhaps a maximum of two months away, so I need to know in advance if I have to save a little more for a new PSU.
Thanks.
