Power required to run a coffee maker

Odd request, I know. I find myself outdoors often with a large group of people and wondered if there's a way I can run an 8-12 cup coffee maker off of my car's battery. I found the below converter but wonder if it has enough juice. Anyone know the minimum watts required? I wouldn't run the coffee maker non-stop. I'm getting a thermal one that shuts off after the coffee is made. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

We're out for around 10 hours and buying coffee in NYC is expensive! A thermos doesn't work since we down cofffee like mad men.

That one is a toy, you can get one that will do 800 from any auto store for like $50.

They have to be connected directly to the battery to do that though, you can't run that kind of power through a cigarette lighter.

This one kicks ass on that site: RoadPro 12 Volt Quick-Brew Coffee Maker for Car RV or Boat $29.95

I love it.

My home coffee maker is 1400 watts. They do make these, though: travel coffee makers.

Woaw! Awesome site - thanks so much!
Yeah, you're going to have to use one of those unless you can find an ultra small regular coffee maker. They eat loads of juice.. It's not easy heating half a gallon of water up to ~180ºF and keeping it there. A regular coffee maker would require a rather large, expensive inverter, and would suck your battery dry quickly... which would be offset if you could run your engine, but that'd be some spendy coffee.

1.4kW? That seems like a lot of power!

Mine is stamped 950W. I'm sure 99% of that is for the heater.
I'm sure it is. Still, though.. unless he could find one in the 450W range, the price of the inverter probably wouldnt be worth it... unless everyone that would be using it pitched in for the cause or something.
