Who used to watch Power Rangers? It was cool when we were kids and were watching it. But as we look back on it now, wth is wrong with those power rangers. They have guns but they go attack one-on-one. The explosions are behind them and yet they spin in circles like 50 feet away.

Power Rangers is a tried and true formula.

Giant monsters. Giant robots. Human element.

Add those three things and you can start a 'fad' TV show every decade.

And the same bad guys keep sending the same sort of monsters. Why not take that big damn Ultrazord thing up there and blow them up? All their base belong to us, and such? We take their bucket!

Remember when the putties had those things in their chest and you hit them and they die. Remember how they would all fight for a really long time before hitting that spot.

I have a friend in a market research firm who did a study on some of this stuff for Disney. The giant stuff isn't very popular these days, the kids aren't responding and sales of the robot toys has continued dropping over the years; Disney would be stuck with it however because it's in the source footage. Meanwhile the 50 foot explosion thing is huge with the kids, they love wire-fu, slow-mo, and explosions, so Disney is doing a lot of that in the footage they shoot.

From what he had been saying however, it sounds like Disney may be discontinuing the series after this year.

The power rangers never escalate a battle.

They're just starting another series - Jungle Force or some such. I keep seeing the commercials for it when my kids are watching the Disney cartoons.

I'm shocked that the series is still going. Like Pokemon, they just keep bringing out different versions.

No, I mean done done. As in they don't make the show any more, period.

My brother and I would watch it when we were 8-11, then as soon as it was over we would go outside on the trampoline and fight while playing the Power Ranger's theme song loud on a portable stereo.

I thought so too. While all my friends were mashing each other's power ranger toy, or messing around with Pokemon, I was busy constructing grandiose architecture with my medieval LEGOs.

Now, LEGOs has gone down the drain. It used to be an awesome way to learn stuff, and help motor sensors in the fingers, and now its just a mere toy.

Sometimes I think the world is just becoming really stupid.

Have you seen the new Hot Wheels? They don't even look like cars anymore.

Does this mean that the idea still works in Japan?

The Americanized Disney version is always "louder" than the source material it derives from. People always exaggerating their battle cries, pyrotechnics everywhere where they can get, hell even inserting motorcycles and hummers everywhere compared to the source material having none of those factors.

However, in my opinion, I feel the story is alot better in the original material. Disney's version seems so forced that it contributes to the ever increasing stale element.... That is probably one of the reasons why in Japan they start a new series with a different concept each time. Each series in itself is a big story to tell and by all means was never ment to go on and on as sequals (like Square Enix's Final Fantasy series).
