Power Problem

Hi. I just recently installed a new motherboard onto my personal computer and began running it as normal. However, the next day I realized that the computer didn't turn on as soon as I first pressed the power button. Is this a sign that I need a new power supply? I had similar problems before that were worse before I switched motherboard, but I figured that changing the motherboard would fix it. What should I do? I also have a printer installed on the computer. Could that be causing the problems? Thanks in advance.

Your printer isn't powered by your PC.

So it doesn't turn on as soon as you press the power button.

What does it do?

Sit there for a while and THEN "turn on" or do you have to cycle the power?

And define "turn on". Do you mean you hit the power button and nothing at all happens (you can't hear fans spinning, etc.) or you hit the power button and nothing comes up on the monitor.

How long of a delay is there between the button being pushed and the PC turning on?

Does it require a couple of pushes before the system reacts?
If so then the button itself may be bad. Try shorting the pins on the motherboard that the power button is connected too. Use a flat head screwdriver for this. If you still have a delay in the system powering on then it may be the motherboard or PSU.

Like the printer has nothing to do with your power on issues.

It is a relief to hear that the printer seems to not be causing this.
The problem is that once I press the power button and try to turn it on, neither the fans spin nor the CPU starts up, leaving my monitor completely blank. The only way it does turn on is if I unplug the main power source from the back of my computer and reconnect it. Eventually, the computer will start up. However, it does not turn on immediately the first time I try. Is this a problem with my power switch, or my whole power source? Thanks in advance.

First lets ggo over the system specs to see if there is any obvious issues. So list your system components for us.

Next like i said bypass the case power switch and just short the pins with a screwdriver. You can also try pulling everything out of the case and setting it up an a peice of cardboard to ensure your not dealing with any shorts.

I'll list the system specs to see if that will help...

I have an Antec Sonata II case, which came with a SmartPower 2.0 450W ATX12V v2.01 power supply. I have the power connected to the motherboard as well as a graphics card.

I really believe that it is the power switch. I'll have to look into bypassing the case power switch. Thanks.
