Power outtage, now jittery playback

Im trying to figure out this hardware problem I am having. I leave my HTPC on 24/7, one night there was an outage and I slowly started to have playback problems. What ive tried: multiple players, reinstalling windows multiple times, swapped out the HDD with fresh win 10 and still am having the same problem.

From here im thinking either my picoPSU, the ASUS notebook brick adapter that plugs into the pico psu, or the motherboard. I really want to narrow this down because working on this machine is a real pain in the ass...Its an itx box loaded up with extra cooling and 3 HDs in a tiny box, its worked flawlessly for a few years until now.

Any ideas?

Was this unit plugged into a surge protector?

It really could be anything really. The only way to figure it would to replace the parts you mentioned, one by one, until you pinpointed the bad part(s).

When you say "playback problems", what exactly are you experiencing? Crashes, reboots, instability?

Playing back what? All video? Certain video? Youtube? Netflix? Amazon? Flash? HTML5? etc.

You've not really described your problem at all.

During playback of 3d blurays as well as during playback of mkv files.....im sure there are others as well.

This is occurring on GOM player as well as on arcsoft totalmedia

And yes it was on a surge protector

It's tough to say what your issue is.

You said you put in a new hard drive and reinstalled Windows 10, but you are experiencing the same issue. So most likely the issue isn't software related.

The power outage you had might have been caused by a lightening strike, and some of your components could have been damaged. There are many different surge protectors out there with different ratings. Some are absolute junk and some are solid units.

Did you leave this PC plugged in when the power was restored?

I hate to say this, but you're going to figure out what component is causing the issue. And with your system, it probably won't be easy due to your components. For example, if my computer started doing what yours did after a power outage, I could just quickly rule out the power supply by using a basic known-working unit I keep around for testing purposes.

You can run some diagnostic tests on your ram and cpu to see if they throw any errors. But for testing your motherboard, power supply, and power adapter it wont be as easy.

Good luck!
