Power ON a motherboard without the connector

Hi,

I was wondering if it's safe to power ON a motherboard using a screwdriver to make contact with both pins. I like to build systems on an open bench first and getting the connector from the case to the motherboard is not really optimal in my new "working" environment. :)

of course, that's the same thing as connecting the switch wires to the 2pins on the motherboard and pressing the button to connect them.

i do it all the time. my nf7-s is running on it's box, and i just use whatever i can find to power it on... a nail, a coin, a pin, any of them work fine. however, do not search around for the reset switch when the machine is on, i got something to arc (not good, but mobo still worked)

Just as long as you're positive you know what you're doing and can live with a fried mobo - not something I would try to do.

I work with hundreds of motherboards out on the test bench without a case, and I short the power-on pins every time with a flathead screwdriver. Not once has a board died.

Hi, There are no dangerous pins in the Pwr Sw cluster. You wont hurt the MD shorting any two pins next to each other. Speaker pins have raw 5 v so stay away from it. I used to us a screwdriver all the time. Got lazy a few yrs ago and made a Push Button with a lead to plug on to the pins. Jim
