Power-Off Question with Win2k

I have a Asus P2B with the latest BIOS revision and a P2-450Mhz. I also have Win2k installed with ACPI enable. I was wondering if I can make it so when I press the power button on my case, Win2k can automatically shut down the computer. I don't mean just turning it off, but invoking the Win2k Shut Down procedures.

I've seen this is in action on a P2B-S so I was wondering if it was possible on a P2B.

Thanks.

It did this automatically with my Epox 7KXA mobo. I was having problems with a keyboard and didn't plug one in to test something and was afraid once I booted into Win2k that I would have to do an improper shutdown. Lo and behold, when I hit the power button and let it go, it did a proper shutdown. I think you can set that in the BIOS and/or in the Power Options Control Panel applet. Go to the advanced tab and see what it is set to. If that doesn't do it, poke around your BIOS for the setting.

'lo madd....um...go to Control Panel > Power Options | Advanced >
(Power buttons) When I press the power button on my computer:

> Power Off
> Standby

....it's werid...sometimes win2k install differently and the power options don'ot show up...been through a few installs and once i had these settings missing in the power options...werid but give it try....and just one thing...when you press pwer and it invokes a shutdown..the process seems to be faster...is it some quick shutdown? The same as the normal shutdown? one seems longer than the other....ne worries about data integrity?

To get this option, you need to have the ACPI (or whatever its called) enabled in the BIOS. Win2K automatically detects this setting on install, and it cannot be easily changed.

I got it to work, thanks for all your help guys!

I've also noticed that if you power-down the computer thru the power switch WIn2k shuts down faster...I wonder why?
