Power off or standby mode?

When I leave my PC for small periods of time is it best to set my LCD to go into standby mode in like 5-10mins or just turn it off? Which would wear it out more? Turning it off/on several times a day or it going into standby mode several times a day?
 
My laptop is on standby most of the day when not in use. It's setup for ease of use.

I don't leave any other computer on. I shut them down when not in use. The others are for specific work.

The laptop is used for emails, surfing the net, and miscelaneous work.

With the cost of KWH in Hawaii, we don't have the luxury of inexpensive electricity so it makes sense to shutdown and conserve.
 
Well I am off/on my PC alot on some days. I have been turning my monitor off/on but was just curious if letting it go to standby would wear the components in it out less. So I asked 😀
