power off on computer?

hi, when you take apart a computer, do all the cables need to be unplugged? THANKS

Yes? What cables? Perhaps if you explained what you were trying to do in more detail we could be more helpful. I guess, if you are trying to remove a motherboard, yeah, you need to disconnect everything. Especially the power plug.

i guess there was nothing specific then, i was just curious....but i guess for a newbie im better off just unplugging everything to be safe, thanks

i like to flip off the power switch on the power supply but leave it plugged in. i assume the ground path is still there so all i have to do to ground myself is touch the case

HC, you need to remember that there is power in the mobo if you do that. The PCI bus has power so any of the wake state stuff will work (WuOL). Although you do get a good ground, you also have voltage/current unless you have a switch on your power supply.

ahh but that's what i'm saying. my psu has a switch on it. to be honest, i don't think i would want a supply that didn't have one anymore
