Wow that sucks, guessing a water pipe froze and broke? I would cry if I saw my basement flooded, and it's not even finished. Still a big mess to cleanup regardless and anything that is stored is gone. In your case it sounds like the motor for the blower might be fried from being underwater.

Hopefully insurance stuff goes smooth and you can have your basement rebuilt how it was again.

I think I can match that. Missed a trip I had been planning for a year due to that big snow storm and got into a huge fight with Expedia over their piss poor customer service. Picked up a really bad cold, and my PS3 got the dreaded yellow light of death and is out of commission for the rest of my time off. Merry f-ing Christmas. Oh well, could be much worse.

nope no pipes broke. my best guess is that with all the rain and snow it was just warm enough to start melting and with the power off the sump pump was not on and it came in that way.

be very careful in how you describe it to your insurance company. DO NOT USE THE WORD FLOOD. Flood damage is not covered unless you buy extra coverage, and they will often deny any claim if you talk about flooding.

It's water damage.

My wife lost her voice, my 6 month old has had a stomach bug and has been puking daily.

We drove 9 hours from GA to FL to be with our families and my wife's mom came down with some bug and was up all Christmas Eve night puking and as a result we held off doing Christmas morning for my 6 month olds first Christmas.

We had a big Christmas dinner planned at my in-laws where my parents, my brother and his wife and kid would all come over also, but since my mother in law was sick it got all messed up and my father in law ended up doing the meats and over cooked it all because he drank to much and wasn't paying attention to what he was doing.

My wife had to bust her ass to make all the side dishes on the fly since she wasn't planning on doing so and didn't even know what was bought to make it all (but she did great).

Today we had a friends night out planned for the past few months and so far one friend backed out and now my brother and his wife backed out since their kid just started throwing up.

:(

Kind of wish we just stayed home...

My nightmare started in the wee hours of the morning today. I stayed late at work plowing the lot before it froze up again. When I got home, there naturally was no parking because of the snow emergency parking rules. I don't have a car and was really tired from working all day so I found a spot near my house and thought I was golden... until I woke up this morning to find my brother in law's car gone. Perfect. That was a couple hundred dollars.

Then, since my landlord is in North Carolina over the holidays, I agreed to shovel the sidewalks so we didn't get a 150 dollar ticket for not shoveling. As it turns out, it rained a few times between bouts of snow yesterday and last night and our sidewalk is a giant ice rink. My roommate is getting sidewalk salt today to try and break it up. I just hope he gets home before the city sees it. At least we're not the only one on the block with shitty sidewalks. I think we're pretty low on the totem pole.

Oh well. It doesn't help much to say it but it could always be worse...

Thats to bad, waggy. Have you thought about getting a battery backup for the sump pump?

alevasseur, most municipalities have some sort a waiver for removing snow/ice from sidewalks.

well..gives you an excuse to upgrade! im still useing my tom tom 1 le. i would like a better unit but it does the job.

I had a nuvi 760, but one thing that irritates me is the inability of a GPS to take into account real driving conditions. Very often the preferred route isn't the best. It would be an easy matter for a GPS to record actual speed and time along a route and compare that to it's data base and make recommendations based on experience.

No such thing, but there is this IQ Routes feature that is well reviewed and I figured I'd give it a shot. Having "faster" routes which aren't but do add miles of driving sucks.

My girlfriend's parent house caught on fire the week before Christmas and they have been living with us since. The damage was extensive enough that it will take at least 6 months to remodel the house from top to bottom. Everything suffered from smoke and water damage. Luckily no one was hurt and the insurance company has been very helpful. It was just sad to see such a nice house destroyed like that with all the decoration and presents ruined.

check your paperwork the installer should have given you when it was installed. Most furnaces have a 5yr parts warranty, 1yr labor. If that is the case, you only owe the guy labor.
