Power Management Problems

I am running WinXp Pro and my power management seems to have stopped working. I have it set to turn off the monitor after 15 minutes and it no longer works. It has been working for the past 4 months since I installed it and just quit all of a sudden. Any ideads?

You may be running an app that's sending keystrokes or mouse movements to other apps. Windows can't tell the difference between SendKeys events coming from the physical keyboard and from other processes.

I hate to ask a dumb question, but waht sort of app would this be? I can't find anything that looks like it would be doing this.

Same problem here. There was a pre-sp1 hot fix for this issue which helped, but now that sp1 is installed one of my machines seems to have the problem again. I'm still digging into it, as I find more I'll try and update this thread for ya.

I had that problem about a year ago. It turned out to be the keyboard software for my Microsoft Internet Keyboard. If I closed it, the pc would put the monitor to sleep. But if it was running, no sleep. I contacted MS support and he walked me through a procedure that corrected the problem.

My suggestion is, start shutting down 1 program at a time, starting with the stuff in your system tray, to see if any of them are causing the problem. Close 1 app, then wait. Then try another. To help speed it along, change your monitor sleep time to like 5 minutes instead of 15.
