Power line adapter speed

I purchased some tp link powerline adapters. (http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA...=1443922384&sr=8-1&keywords=tp+link+powerline) I am seeing slower speeds than I expected. I realize these are not going to be as fast as a ethernet cable and there are many variables to speed, But I was wondering. Even though I am only getting 15mbps down when I get 40 next to my router on wifi. Would the speeds be faster if I used a 500 mbps ethernet port powerline adapter or would they be as slow as these 100mbps adapters?

Quality of your wiring, distance and electronic noise could play a factor. Some people report good results while others do not. Is this an old house? How far away are the adapters?
