Hi Guys

trying to make all the right connections on my Asus P4C 800 Deluxe

Im reading the manual , but its not showing me what I want to know

Can the following System Panel Connections be made in correctly
Is there right way and a wrong to attach these connectors

Power Led
IDE Led
Speaker Connector
Reset SW
ATX Power Switch
-----------------------------

Im also having so troubles with connecting the USB Headers
USB56 and USB78

On the side of the 2 square black connectors it is labeled
1 GND USB+ USB- VCC
2 GND USB+ USB- VCC
and 2 single wires marked ground

(Picture of the USB connector)

On the header USB56 itself there is a row of 5 pins on one side
labeled----- USB +6V USB P6- USB P6+ GND

the other side it has 4 pins

labeled USB +5v USB P5 GND

I cant figure this stuff out

I have a KingWin 436 Case with front USB

This is my first time at building so no flames please

I have an Asus P4P800 Deluxe board and hope the connections are similar for the P4C800 Deluxe. For my board:

USB Connection:

Use the 4-pin rectangular connectors shown in your pic. Say, Connector 1 is USB 5 and Connector 2 is USB 6. Line up Connector 1 with the USB 5 pins so the Ground on the connector goes into the Ground pin and the VCC on the connector goes into the USB+5V. Do the same with the Connector 2 and pins for USB 6. Don't worry about the single ground connectors.

System panel connector:

The only thing to worry about is if any polarity is required. Connect the red wire to (+) and Black/White wire to (-)/Ground where available. I doubt if you will blow anything up if polarities are reversed. Hope someone else can answer this for sure.

PM me if the USB connector info is not clear and I will try to show it diagrammatically.

The switches have no polarity. They switches connect one wire to other regardless. The speaker has no polarity.

The LEDs do have polarity. In general the color of wire which is common to the different connectors is the negative.(However some cases have them all black and red, in which case black should be negative. Black usually is minus/ground in electronics and DC, although not in electrical house wiring, where white is ground.) It happens that the LEDs on these case connectors can be connected backwards without damage. They just won't light up. If they don't, then reverse them. The HD light in particular often does not have a clear indication of which prong is the minus, and I usually get it wrong and have to reverse it.

On page 2-32 of the manual is the system panel connection layout. Some of these show + and some show a ground. You are correct in your post about the white being ground. The other color (non-white) would be your + and some case wiring connectors will also have a + on the wire pin connector itself.

thanks everyone for the big help

I ended plugging in my box for a quick test ( no cpu and no HD or ram )
All the fans fired up and the Power Light came on

It feels good , making something work

I appreciate the help

Next step will be installing a CPU and a HSF ?

Probably in a few weeks
